Studio Rental Overview

** EDC is in a transition right now and is not currently offering classes via it's own studio. However, if you are interested in classes, please contact us (above link) for some ideas for other ways to do classes -

Donovan **

Studio Rental cost is based on whether or not you have your own basic equipment (such as jacks and blowpipes).

$30.00hr for those who do
$40.00hr for those who don't

** The slight raise in cost is due to utility increases **

1 hour slots are scheduled during open hours. Once scheduled, your slot will be viewable on the online calendar.

For first time glass blowers, a weekend class is required as a pre-cursor to renting the studio.

Classes
Classes are held on weekends (Sat and Sun). Scheduled time is from 10AM to around 4PM with a lunch break. There are 10 Total Class hours. We try to conduct the class according to the unique pace of the class.

It is just a fact that some folks "get it" faster than others, so a second class is offered at a discounted rate to those who have already taken a class and want to continue the study. This class is also nice if you want to rent studio space but you don't quite feel comfortable working independently. It is not uncommon for students to take more than one weekend class.

Classes are energetic and fun as they are run at the pace of the attendees.

Though not necessary, One can purchase two basic tools which will provide a discount to the class price. The purchase of a blow pipe and jacks comes to around $280 depending on the quality you will want. Used tools are occassionally available for sale at a cheaper price. This purchase also gives you a discount on studio time rates.

Costs:
$250 for a Saturday and Sunday class.
$150 if one purchases his or her own blowpipe and jacks.

Attendees will take home their creations.

Classes will ideally be scheduled when there is a size of 2 to 4 people registered.

What you will wear:
· A long sleeve cotton shirt for protection is very important as the glass radiates heat. If you don't have one, we do sell long sleeve shirts with our logo. No synthetics please. Blue jeans or khakis work well. Closed Toe shoes (no sandles) are a must. You will want to take off your watch or any jewelry at the time of blowing.

Other things to consider:
· Bottled water is supplied.

· Hair tie (for those with long hair).

• Lunch is to be worked out by the group upon scheduling.

Does heat bother you?
Minor burns happen in a glass studio and usually only act as a reminder about safety. It is, however very easy to work safely in a glass blowing studio without burns. Safety, and how to get around safely in a glass studio, will be one of the first things discussed in the class. Radiant heat is the other heat issue. When gathering and when working glass, one is confronted with radiant heat. Some folks deal with it better than others but most folks will get used to it by the end of the first day. If you have a medical condition that could be affected by radiant glass, you will need to disclose it.

We look forward to creating with you!
